After years of
renovation work, we are proud to add our fifth and largest site to the
Bushwick Community. Having four floors and almost 20,000 square feet of
space, this five million dollar building does more than improve the
façade of the neighborhood.
This new building has opened space for more than 160 children, with seven
classrooms providing full day services and one classroom that's a double
session, this new site caters for a longstanding need in the community.

Over the years, our Community Needs Assessment's
(CNAs) have identified a growing need for the provision of full day
classes. This is particularly the case as an increasing number of
parents are becoming more educated and entering the workforce.
Through our programs that encourage training and development, parents
have been able to find gainful employment. The motto "Poverty does not
imply ignorance" has been well touted.
Giving back to the community is like an anthem at Bushwick United. The
new Stanhope Street location provides a venue for a number of parent
workshops and training, conferences, community meetings and, a soon to
be introduced, computer center for parents to access internet services,
refine their resume and look online for job opportunities. |

As we advance technologically, the benefits are being directly
passed on to the community. This investment is expected to not
only improve the technical skills of parents, but also improve their
employment marketability as well.Since the physical development and coordination is
one of the goals of our program, we have equipped our new site with
an outdoor play area that boasts aesthetic appeal as well as
functionality. Our children are well protected with a padded
floor area and all equipment are child friendly, ensuring that
accidents are minimized. In addition, first aid equipment is close
at hand in the event of any mishaps. The play area is over two
thousand square feet, ensuring adequate space for each child as they
vent and express their creativity through play. This area is
also very secure with the yard being thoroughly fenced and
surveillance cameras monitoring all activity. |

As we continue to integrate ourselves in the community,
Bushwick United Housing Development Fund Corporation and the programs that
we provide will continue to translate the grant funding we receive into
positive gains. Through partnerships and dialogue with key leaders in
the community, businesses, activists and other not for profit organizations
we will endeavor to make our programs more targeted, beneficial and
appropriate to the needs of the community. Plans in the pipeline
include the relocation of one of our current sites at 136 Bushwick Avenue in
Brooklyn, to a newer and more spacious location a few blocks away. Our
responsiveness to the needs of the changing community demography, economy
and education is manifested in our expansion and continued growth.
