History & Philosophy
Bushwick United Housing Development Fund Corporation was founded in the late 1970s by a group of community activists, including Jose Gonzalez and Aida Caraballo. Today Mr. Gonzalez and Ms. Caraballo continue to work actively in the organization; Mr. Gonzalez currently serves as our Executive Director and Ms. Caraballo as our Chairperson.
Bushwick United provides a high quality, preschool program and a family-focused series of programs and workshops. Our main goal is to provide children with a “head start” in their formative years of development and help prepare them for their future years of schooling.
Our Head Start and daycare programs are currently delivered through NYC’s EarlyLearn and Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program. Through our 8 sites we serve over 650 students and families.
Special Education Integrated Services
Integrated classrooms are available for students with special needs and are designed so that all students are able to fully participate in all activities in the classroom while individual needs are met.
Through collaborations with various agencies, we also provide speech, occupational and physical therapy as well as counseling for students with diagnosed disabilities.
“It’s great that parents are welcome to participate in the program and share their culture with one another.”
